GBTA
System Planning Project
The Authority's System Planning Project is approximately 95% complete. Since the project began, the Authority has collected up-to-date information on the current operation of local bus services including on-time performance and safety. More importantly, a series of public information sessions were held in each member municipality during which riders were encouraged to present their ideas for improving bus service.
Based on the data collected as well as rider perceptions and requests, a series of service improvements, including route and schedule changes, has been formulated. Theses ideas were presented to riders through a detailed newsletter and a series of seven forums for public comment.
There is still time to comment. Please view the links below for the details of the proposed service changes. If you have any questions, please contact us.
The goals of the Planning Project include:
- Improve safety
- Improve on-time performance
- Improve geographic coverage
- Improve scheduling and connections
- Improve coordination with rail
- Provide better access
- Reduce redundancies
- Increase ridership and revenues

Automatic
Vehicle Location Project
GBTA is currently seeking proposals for the implementation of an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system.
AVL is a computer-based vehicle
tracking system that has helped transit agencies around
the world improve their services in a number of ways:
-
Improve
schedule adherence
-
Provide
customers with real-time service information
-
Improve
service efficiency
-
Improve
bus schedules
-
Pre-process
data for dispatch
-
Improve
information accuracy
-
Provide
improved operational support
-
Provide
enhanced safety and security
The
dominant technology used today for locating vehicles
in AVL is the Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS
technology uses signals transmitted from a network
of 24 satellites in orbit around the earth and received
by a GPS antenna placed on each bus.
The
Authority is now working with CDOT and the Federal
Transit Administration to begin this effort. If you
have any questions about the project, please contact
us: dholcomb@gbtabus.com.
