Affordable public transportation is essential to improving Connecticut's economy and environment.

Please join the Transit for Connecticut Coalition, state elected officials and transit advocates:

Wednesday, June 17, 2009
4:00 p.m.
Greater Bridgeport Transit Bus Station
710 Water Street, Bridgeport

A 40% increase in bus fares penalizes the people most reliant on public transit and disproportionately burdens the citizens who can least afford it.

Any increase in fares negatively impacts the state's efforts to encourage residents to use mass transit in order to alleviate congestion on our roads, reduce vehicle miles traveled and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Show your support.

GBT Sweeps Statewide Transit Roadeo

GBT Bus Drivers Take First Place in Every Category

On Sunday, bus drivers from Greater Bridgeport Transit brought home First Place awards in every category at the Connecticut Statewide Transit Roadeo. “We know that we have a superb group of bus drivers and we are very proud of the ones who participated in the roadeo this year” said Ron Kilcoyne, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer for GBT. “This success is an honor for the operators and the whole GBT family”. GBT drivers finished first in all three main categories. Driver Marvester Robinson, a five year veteran with GBT, finished first in the 40-foot bus category, while Oscar Mera, a driver for over 14 years, won in the 35-foot bus category. GBT Access Driver Anibal Gonzalez finished first in the minibus competition. This is the first year GBT Access competed in the state Roadeo. Dean Farmassony placed Second in 35-foot and Driver James Gantt placed fourth in that category. GBT also received the Team Award in the 35-foot category and Mr. Mera received the award for having the highest score of any competitor in all categories.  According to Andrew Ifill, GBT Board Chairman, “The Board of Commissioners could not be more pleased with the success of our drivers who have once again proven their talent and dedication to public service”.

The Connecticut Roadeo is an opportunity for bus drivers from across the state to showcase their driving abilities. In order to participate, operators must have an excellent work record, stellar attendance and a safe driving record free of preventable accidents. This year, the event was sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and was held in Manchester. Winners of the Roadeo will compete in the International Transit Roadeo, which will be held in Ohio next Spring.
